CONSPIRACY (PENAL CODE § 182)
An often-used word for historical references, but when in the context of the criminal justice system, there are very specific requirements.
CONSPIRACY LAW
When one or more people agree to commit a crime and at least one of them does an overt act that furthers that agreement, a conspiracy has been committed.
AN OVERT ACT
Notice that an overt act must be done to accomplish the crime of a conspiracy, yet the conspiracy must not be completed. Therefore, some act more than just planning or preparing for the conspiracy could qualify as an overt act. This is different from the law of Attempt.
